ABOUT EADN
The East Asian Development Network (EADN) is a network of research institutions in the developing countries of East Asia under the Global Development Network (GDN). With support from the World Bank and the Global Development Network, Dr CHIA Siow Yue, Director of the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies in Singapore established the East Asian Development Network (EADN), in parallel with other regional networks being established in other parts of the developing world. Dr Chia serves as Regional Coordinator of EADN and the EADN Secretariat was based at the Institute of Southeast Studies from 1998 to October 2002 and at the Singapore Institute of International Affairs since November 2002.
The objective of EADN is research capacity building and research networking. Its mission is to strengthen the capacity of research institutions and researchers in developing East Asia to undertake high quality development-focused and policy-relevant research in the social sciences, that can be used in policy analysis, debates and inputs at the regional and national levels.
Transfer of EADN Secretariat
The EADN Regional Coordinator and Secretariat will be transferred with effect from 1 August 2004, from Dr Chia Siow Yue at the Singapore Institute of International Affairs, to Dr Chalongphob Sussangkarn at the Thailand Development Research Institute. Dr Chia has been responsible for establishing EADN in 1998. The new Regional Coordinator will serve a five-year term.
